Introducing Tessa in Late Summer
A suite of patterns inspired by Dutch paintings, with slightly unexpected colour pairings. From punchy ultramarine to steadfast, sunflower yellow - from bucolic peach-kissed pink to the warm reassuring olive green, you will find juxtaposition and 'collections within a collection' here. Rather on purpose! Think of lazy, hazy days in rolling fields where you can inhale the drying grass and hear the crickets in your ears...a just-bitten peach clenched in a sticky fist. This is a certain kind of heaven.
...a richly flowered apron, a tea towel hanging on the sink, peeling wallpaper in the kitchen. Swiss chard in a colander, beads of water perched on every bead. Wet clothes on the floor from your dip in the river. Someone is humming an old tune out of earshot. The sun hasn't set yet, it is already 8pm. The dusty light dances in the trees as someone turns on the grill to get dinner on. The cobblestones feel rough beneath your feet.
You glance up, and the sky is insistently blue with darkening edges. A fresh white shirt you've just put on smells of the sunshine under which it spent the day drying. You feel a tinge of hunger but the evening is almost feast enough. A quick walk by the windmill, perhaps - it will take but 10 minutes. Why not? You may always grab another peach off the heaving bowl on the rough, hewn outdoor table.
Inspired by Marie's local art heritage, the Malay archipelago being a former Dutch colony, Tessa in Late Summer is a promise of one last lazy afternoon outstretched on a hammock. Golden days where the flowers talk to you for hours. Towering trees wave in the wind, beckoning wistfully to the sun, saying "stay just a little longer, won't you?"
Pencil marks are left in, fuzzy edges abound - the human hand is not absent from this kit, which draws from sketchy drawings on ancient parchment. Rich pigments from wax colour pencils bring forth these delicious jewel tones. This is a juxtaposition between clean structure and hand-drawn, imperfect, soulful work, and I hope you love it as much as I do.
